Lonely thirtysomething Rose (Maeve Higgins) is a driving instructor in a rural Irish town. It’s not an especially rewarding gig, but it’s all she can do to get away from her true calling — that of a paranormal “sensitive,” daughter of a famous departed TV medium.

 “A winningly off-kilter comedy … a kind of tea-cosy Ghostbusters that’s consistently funny and off-the-wall.” – Dennis Harvey, Variety

She’s become accustomed to seeing spiritual activity that others are blessedly oblivious to, and she’s quite happy to keep it private. This becomes rather difficult when past-his-prime rock star Christian Winter (Will Forte) comes to town, looking for a sacrificial victim to renew his Satanic pact for one hell of a come-back album. A whole lot of supernatural craziness is about to put Rose to the test. One of the most exhilaratingly funny and endearing comedy/occult creations in recent years, Extra Ordinary is an inventively oddball paranormal extravaganza fully befitting of its title. (Dir. by Mike Ahern & Edna Loughman, 2019, Ireland/Belgium, in English, 94 mins., Rated R)  Other festivals: SXSW; Fantasia

Preceded by the short film, Under Covers. On the night of a lunar eclipse, we uncover the sweet, salacious, and spooky secrets of a small town. From a pigtailed psychopath to naughty nuns and everything in between, this stop motion animated film conjures a comforting thought: that weird is relative. (Dir. by Michaela Olsen, 2019, USA, 7 mins., Not Rated)
