A mysterious, otherworldly visitor offers gratification to the sexually oppressed in this daring, disturbing and erotically-charged sci-fi thriller from Mexican provocateur Amat Escalante (Heli). Alejandra and her brutish, homophobic husband Angel live with their young sons in Guanajuato, Mexico. While the swaggering Angel lords over his family, he’s also lining up his next secret hotel room tryst with Alejandra’s brother Fabián, a gentle humanitarian who works in the local hospital. He too strains under the yoke of the domineering Angel.

“Sex, death and the extremely weird intersect – or perhaps that should be intertwine – to unnerving effect in The Untamed.” – Jonathan Romney, Screen Daily

One day a young stranger named Veronica arrives at the clinic, strung out but strangely exhilarated, with what appears to be a dog bite. Soon she befriends Fabián and Alejandra and observes that maybe they should be getting some of what she’s been getting. She directs them to a chalet in the countryside where an elderly couple harbors a mysterious, erotically-omnivorous guest – a guest that is not of this world.  A surreal nightmare of sex, scares and tentacles ensues. Rest assured, not everyone will emerge unscathed from this bizarre walk on the wild side. (Dir. by Amat Escalante, 2016, Mexico/Denmark/France/Germany/Norway, in Spanish with English subtitles, 98 mins., Not Rated)
